<image:title>Current Work - COMPETITIVE CORPORATIONS OF GAIA; COUNTLESS BUHJOHNS</image:title>
<image:caption>A performance by Anoushé Shojae-Chaghorvand, Trevor Blauth, and Kory Shoja-Chaghorvand, Holiday Forever, Jackson, WY, 01.04.20 "We are looking for a new national anthem, a new name for our country, and a new flag. Freedom seems paradoxical to the reality of the United States of America. The name of our nation seems politically incorrect. This is a performance about competition and terror, and an old/new patriotism, where there are no states just corporations."</image:caption>

<image:title>Current Work - Banging On The Open Gate, 2020</image:title>
<image:caption>A mechanical painting in the scale of a human figure is working out on a picnic table. The picnic table is being whipped on its seating area. The painting is doing push-ups on top of the table top while wearing white messy paint stained gloves and ill fitting colorful workout shoes. It has poorly done tattoos on the “bones” of its arms. The “figure” doing the whipping is a pvc pipe with a rope at its end that is held up by a steel stand loosely wearing leather boots. The steel stand is haphazardly mounted to a plaster mold block with a work light connected to the horizontal arm that extends outward with the whip. The mechanical figure slowly performs the workout constantly throughout the exhibition hours while the whipping figure is activated by the viewer with a sensor at its base. The imagery of the painting is a holy anonymous head with tattooed hands holding a body fragment of a saintly figure in front of the shadow of a cathedral doorway. The hands on the hallowed head are lifting and presenting this saintly figure from the darkness behind it while thus creating or maintaining its own holiness in the presentation. The starkness of the imagery references historical record drawings of stained glass from European cathedrals. The painting acts as a symbol of the artist right now; equating the current field of thought in art to institutions of Western theology. It is a demonstration of presenting the “good” through imagery or, in other words, virtue signaling. The painting appears to be working out in hopes of becoming stronger but is struggling on the Rutgers picnic table. The struggle of the painting on the community picnic table symbolizes the actual strength of an image beyond an institution of educated reviewers. The whip acts as the bang on the open gate or the preach to the choir, to commend those who already accept the opinion or are open to it. It attacks the institution that supports and applauds its controlled and futile rebellion.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Past Work - Casco Bay Mudflats (2017)</image:title>
<image:caption>45 minute collaborative performance piece A collaborative performance with Ashley V. Bennett at the Casco Bay Mudflats in Portland, Maine in early November on a full moon. The piece consisted of Ashley and myself spinning each other in the mudflats with two boat ropes. Upon falling, the first fallen would yell out a word at random and the victor would repeat it and then the whole process would begin over again, forming incoherent non-sensical sentence fragments. The performance ended after forty-five minutes when both parties were too physically exhausted to continue the process in the over foot deep mud. The performance is about chance, and a facade of control.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Mixed Media Installation. Gun Control was created in response to the the Parkland, FL school shooting and the lack of response from the Federal government to the incident. In a society where students are told to defend themselves in school by throwing books at assailants, and teachers transformed into cops, it seems our best bet for real gun control is to teach students to warp around the oncoming bullet.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Past Work - Show Your Wounds (2009)</image:title>
<image:caption>A performance piece at Maryland Institute College of Art where I wore a thorn stuffed full length leather jacket and played the organ while pressing it into the front of my body, while pressing my back against the wall. I recited a quote from Joseph Beuys about the power of showing ones physical and emotional wounds. Thorns entered my body in all directions, and resurfaced months later. From the Tate: ‘And when I say “Show it! Show the wound that we have inflicted upon ourselves during the course of our development”, it is because the only way to progress and become aware of it is to show it.’ (Quoted in Borer, p.25.) This statement reflects Beuys’s concept of art as therapy, not only as a means for personal healing but in its ability to communicate ideas to a wide audience in order for social, moral, political and ecological remedies to be found. http://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/beuys-show-your-wound-t07976</image:caption>

<image:title>Past Work - We Can Be Heroes (2019)</image:title>
<image:caption>This is an effigy of millennial culture in the United States. In this effigy is a lens of western first world voyeurism to suffering, inequality, and brutality. Spectacles of tragedy flash in our world, and in the rest of the worlds within marginalized communities, the rise of a self-exhibited political consciousness, and non-stop crusades on social media. A feeling of hopelessness occurs in response to the severity and scope of these problems that causes many people in these first world communities to jump ship on their role in these problems, and take a stance that is synonymous with morality common in monotheism. Everyone is a volunteer—i mean victim! No one is accountable and there's always a Jesus Christ to be strung up on the cross for the evil we see in the world, an example to be made of, a stage to showcase our commitment to a larger, incredibly more pressing issue. In “Blurry”, a Puddle of Mudd song, a line goes “everybody's empty and everything is so messed up”. How vague a statement but a mantra of the times. “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21. We watch tragedy unfold in rapid intervals, and all we can do to this nonstop rhythm of violence is place our hands on our genitals and masturbate to the beat, and get off on the severity of brutality, we hardly grasp while screaming into the void, the hyperreal: the “punk” anthem of “TEN THOUSAND FANS SCREAMING FUTURE, NO FUTURE!” - Dennis Hopper, White Star, 1983 This installation was shown in a Dutch barn made out of a now extinct variety of American chestnut, through a three week residency offered at artists Dave Cole and Jennifer Khar’s property in Hudson, New York. The barn used to be the personal studio of Louis Paul Jonas (1894-1971). Jonas was an American sculptor of wildlife, taxidermist, and natural history exhibit designer. <image:caption>Plaster, steel, fluorescent light, acrylic paint, plastic sheeting, and lumber Does the night show you the facts? is a piece made in response to the effort of trying to decode and signify dreams. The effort of trying to do this is as absurd as trying to signify meaning or purpose in personal existence. Life is a joke filled with meaningful symbols.</image:caption>
